4-Day Tanzania Safari – Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you will meet your safari driver guide and transfer to Arusha. The drive takes about 1 to 2 hours depending on traffic and your accommodation. Arusha is a major starting point for safaris in northern Tanzania and is located between Mount Meru and the main safari areas like Lake Manyara, Tarangire National Park among others.
After checking in, you can rest at the lodge or hotel. If you arrive early, you may have time for a short town visit or local activity. Accommodation options include Arusha Coffee Lodge, Gran Meliá Arusha and Kibo Palace Apartments.
Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park for a game drive. Tarangire is known for its elephants, large baobab trees and seasonal wildlife concentration around the Tarangire River.
The game drive is done from a safari vehicle along designated tracks. Your guide looks for wildlife and selects routes based on recent sightings and road conditions. You may see elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, antelopes and with luck, lions. After the game drive, continue to Karatu for your overnight stay. Accommodation options include Ngorongoro Farm House, Marera Valley Lodge and Eileen’s Trees Inn.
Day 3: Transfer from Karatu to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast, drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. The crater is a large volcanic caldera and is one of Tanzania’s main wildlife viewing areas. The game drive follows established routes across the crater floor. Visitors may see lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and different antelope species. Black rhinos are also present but are not always easy to find. After the game drive, leave the conservation area and drive back to Arusha for the night.
Day 4: Departure
After breakfast, transfer from Arusha to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight. The drive usually takes about 1–2 hours. The safari ends at the airport.
